Symbolic Candle "Letter Ї"

This candle is special to me not only because it stands out from my dessert collection. It is different in meaning — deeper and stronger.
Its pattern has become the embodiment of our new history — a history we keep writing every day.

In fact, drawing the pattern took much longer than coming up with the idea of the candle 🕯 — I'm not much of an artist. But perhaps that is exactly why every line here is lived and felt.

At the base of the design is a pot from which the flower of our nation grows. It is a symbol of the seed we managed to preserve, even when the soil was unfavourable. A symbol of quiet but persistent growth after a long period of restrictions — and of the first step towards freedom in 1991.

The first sprouts are our hope for flourishing in the early 2000s.
Next come larger flowers with branches that never rose upward: lost opportunities, years when progress slowed and much potential remained unrealised in the 2010s.

In the centre are twisted, tense shoots — the events that hardened us in 2014 and gave rise to new branches and buds that bloom in the shape of our coat of arms.

The top pair of flowers is our present. A time when most people have recognised themselves as a nation in a state with very deep roots, symbolised by the tryzub 🔱.

So this candle is not only about the letter "Ї".
It is about the path. About fragility and strength. About freedom that does not come at once, but always begins with a small flame.

The shape of this candle is original. It was born from my drawing and became another way to tell a story through symbols.

The idea of a symbolic candle had lived in me for a long time, but its clear image was inspired by a poem by the Ukrainian poet Ivan Malkovych, which speaks of a child protecting the tiny candle of the letter "Ї" with their palms.

Today "Ї" is no longer just a letter of the alphabet.
It is a sign of presence. A symbol of identity. A quiet form of resistance. A letter without which the words "Kyiv" (Київ) and "Ukraine" (Україна) cannot be written.

This candle is about light. About a language that warms.
About a culture that grows even in the dark.
And about a fire we want to protect and pass on to future generations.

At POLUMIANI this little candle 🕯✨ has taken a special place: it warms the heart and inspires us to create beauty! We hope it inspires you too!
